Scrolling Lyrics??

There are many sites which provide lyrics of songs. However I was searching for lyrics in Lrc format, with time tags. That way I can have the lyrics scroll as the songs is being played - karoake style. The metrolyrics flash window does that. But certainly there is no way to retrieve the time tags from there.

The search is still on for a lyrics database with time tags.

Its really a waste of time manually adding the time tags, and I usually get bored by half a song.

China.....

Long back, when I was still in college, a friend of mine had told me about a site where you can chat anonymously with strangers all over the world.

I thought well big deal, it'll mostly be filled with guys looking for girls, with no girls at all. Or worse some weirdo's.

Basically I couldn't understand why would anyone want to chat with a stranger. I myself find it hard to manage my time among all the many many friends I already have.

However it was indeed a shock when I used the service.

http://omegle.com/

This is the site my friend had refered me. I was online as usual waiting for some friend to be online but surprisingly no one was. So I just went there thinking, well I've nothing to loose.

The first user was a chinese girl(17) and she was typing in very good english and I was surprised by that She told that she knew good english but many of her friends didn't. Then very soon she left the chat.

The next user was exactly the thing I had expected to happen. The user asked what my gender is. The moment I told I'm a male - Disconnected :)

The third user was the shock of my life. It was a chinese guy just 13 years old. He's trying to improve his english. Then it occured to me that yes this is a good enough reason for someone to use this service. We chatted for quite sometime and then exchanged email addresses and now I've a pen pal from China.

Here's some of the interesting parts of the conversation

Bittu Da dhaba

On April 2nd 2009 my project partner Vijay and Me finished our historical Final Year Project Presentation. It f the single most difficult thing we have done in the entire Final Year!!

With extremely tired mind and body we felt lets go some place near to celebrate our unofficial finishing of Final Year as very little was left in terms of academic work once the Final Year Project is done.

So we went to Bittu Da Dhaba. Well its near our college and I don't think I need to say anything about Dhaba food for anyone who likes spicy food.

Continuing with my trend of making videos out of photos, I thought lets make another one. So here's the video and once again I would suggest watching it in HD. Enjoy.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Mangalore No.1 Get Together

We had a reunion kind of a thing in Bharath mall with a significant number of people attending it. Namely Manoj, Tejaswi, Manu, Kushal, Deepak, Darshan, Balaji, Shiva, Chetan and me.

This was a get-together organized by Kushal and Tejaswi. And it was on Jan 25th 2009. Ya I know it was long back but then lazy bones like me get things delayed apparently for no reason!

Staying in Mangalore itself after my schooling days has made it difficult, for me atleast, to miss school days. When you know your classmates are all in the city, its kindof tough to feel they have parted away!!

But now that my college days are over, I'm finally feeling, well ,college friends are gone and soon I'll be gone for work, may be somewhere in Africa!!

We met in Bharath mall, Mangalore. It was a great time we had. Reliving the amazing school days. Some pictures were taken and I thought well its kinda boring to go thru pics one by one, for my friends, and even more for strangers, so lets just jazz it up a bit. So here's a video presentation made out of those pics.I would recommend watching it in HD. Enjoy. And do comment.

The World's First Programmer

Being a student of IT for 4 years has meant reading a lot of books ......err, ok some books.
I've had several lecturers teaching us several subjects which are hopelessly outdated. And I've read some blogs of professionals working in the latest technology.

There have been moments when I felt well there's a lot to be proud of my field. But something that has been always hushed up or has been understated, is the role of women in IT or Computer Science. Rarely have I come across any algorithm by a lady or even a book by a lady...well some international authors have such weird names its difficult to decipher their gender.

Then after fooling around all the IT stuffs for 4 years, it never occured to me who was the first programmer in the whole world. We all knew Charles Babbage was the father of computers and stuffs like that, but being in IT means we are basically programmers.

So guess who was the world's first programmer.... Well I'm sure you would've guessed by now its some lady, if not; then well, it in fact is a lady - Lady Ada Lovelace. She's the one after whom the programming language Ada is named.

Lady Ada Lovelace

Its surprising that we were never told about something like this. Considering the abysmal number of girls in our class...well our juniors have improved in the sex ratio.

wiki entry for Lady Ada Lovelace
A small biography of Lady Ada Lovelace

The above links give a hell lot of information about the interesting person she was.

Moral Policing

Mangalore has always been my favorite city. I've spent the most wonderful days of my life here. Mangalore has always been a very tolerant and peaceful city. In fact it was very weird in the first few days when we moved here.

However the recent events of Pub Attacks and Abduction of the daughter of a mla the image of the city has taken a beating.

The thing I had in mind from that day was, I needed to do something, anything to mark my protest. What I believe is that these hooligans get the guts to do these kind of acts only because WE don't protest. We are too preoccupied with our easy going life. We feel "I've not been harmed by them, Why should I be worried".

The one thing I am reminded of is the famous quote

First they came for the Jews, but I did nothing because I'm not a Jew. Then they came for the socialists, but I did nothing because I'm not a socialist. Then they came for the Catholics, but I did nothing because I'm not a Catholic. Finally, they came for me, but by then there was no one left to help me. – Pastor Father Niemoller (1946)

I strongly oppose the manner in which the moral police works. Who are they to tell anyone what to do.

I was shocked by a lady friend of mine who said she supports Ram sene. I knew that she was very forward thinking and most importantly a woman!
On further inquiry it turns out that she knows all the good work done by Ram sene before these ugly incidents and so feels that they are not that bad. But she too was not supporting their act of moral policing.

This is what happens always, Most organizations start of as good one's, with a good motive and usually by a good person with great vision. But as the well known Chinese proverb goes - A fish starts rotting from its head.

Once the top level of that organization gets slightly off track, the organization goes from being the best to something that we all can see.
The question therefore is should we not oppose them just because they did good work earlier.
Just like saving someone's life doesn't give me the right to take it , doing good work doesn't give the right to any organization to do wrong things.

I would like to add here that the "morals" they were "protecting" are not entirely wrong. My major opposition is the way it was carried out.
I'm myself against drinking - which means I don't drink. And would advice my loved ones not to do so either. And certainly doesn't mean that I go beating around People who do it. And to top it all the hypocrisy surrounding the moral policing is the extreme suppression of women in the name of morals.

Coming back to the point that I was dieing to do something to mark my protest. The times carried this article about a blog which was having a unique campaign against the Ram sene.

I checked the blog and was surprised how a simple, funny and seemingly stupid idea can generate such a huge response.

These are some of the awsome comments I found in the blog.

"Do they have to be used or new?"

I have yellow chaddis. I believe that's a good colour for guys who beat up women.

Lol! This is going to be such fun! Frankly, can't believe someone is getting serious and taking the initiative. We have gotten so used to taking things lightly and forgetting about such incidents till they actually affect us.
Good work, people!

LOL.. Nice tongue in cheek idea.. Love it!
I guess Muthalik will attempt banning pink chaddi's because that is against indian culture..

In response to some comments that opposed the movement

It's ridiculous to criticize this as being too glib or 'not serious enough'. It's a form of protest that has evolved spontaneously enough to deserve respect in a democracy. It's at least infinitely better than to sit behind little boxes criticizing work being DONE and demanding "real protest" that follows some tired protocol. And perhaps even better than grabbing them and beating the living daylights out of them, no matter how tempting that may seem.

I'd like to see even one of you get off your lazy asses and start something if you think you have the intellect and the drive to do it.

Pubbing, noodle straps, tight jeans, Val's day etc could be right or could be wrong..but it's we who have to decide how we wanna live at the end of the day! We can't have these goondas dictate our lives! I'm not necessarily protesting for val's day..I AM PROTESTING FOR OUR FREEDOM TO CHOOSE! WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A FREE NATION! MR. MUTALIK, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY 'DAD', PLEASE PAY MY BILLS TOO!

...A woman has as much as right as you to indulge her needs whatever they may be without names being hurled at her..you remind me of that old line, you know, if a man is promiscuous he's a stud, but if a woman is promiscuous she's a whore! In any case, your comments only reveal your ugly prejudices and double standards.

....Indians are big hypocrites...we will ask freedom to what we want., but when want a bride for our son..we will be very careful not to choose a "loose character" girl. Is that not double standards???

There were some People mostly anonymous who said it was a bad idea and hurled abuses in the comments, only one of them made sense

why r u girls trying to reveal ur undergarments to the public and do these kinda protest,,did ramsena tell u not to wear red underwear on valentine day,no,they are protesting for protecting our culture where in,in the name of valentine day there are so many unwanted activities happening,,if u girls still want to go ahead with this, your choice.REMEMBER THE WORLD IS WATCHING AND WE WILL BE A LAUGHING STOCK. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WESTERN CULTURE AND US. THERE THEY PROTEST NAKED FOR SOME CAUSE,HERE U ARE PROTESTING WITH YOUR PANTIES FOR SOME USELESS CAUSE.THERE ARE SO MANY MORE USEFUL THINGS TO THINK ABOUT AND LEAD LIFE..

And this is how one needs to register protest. One simple line "if u girls still want to go ahead with this, your choice" makes the whole post wonderful. If moral police were like this anonymous person, There would be no problem at all.
